Where can I get a hearing test in Tuxedo, Winnipeg?

Prairie Hearing Centre offers free comprehensive hearing tests in Tuxedo at Unit 4–2090 Corydon Avenue, on the Corydon-at-Kenaston corner near the Tuxedo shops. The assessment takes about 60 minutes, requires no physician referral, and includes sound-booth testing across all speech frequencies, speech-in-noise testing, an ear health check, and a plain-language review of results. The clinic is independently owned by Kyle McCombs, a Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist (BC-HIS) in hearing healthcare since 2006, and Sara McCombs. Beyond testing, it fits hearing aids from Oticon, Phonak, Starkey, Widex, and ReSound, provides tinnitus therapy and custom hearing protection, and services every major brand with loaners available. Direct insurance billing and funding support — including the Manitoba Seniors Hearing Aid Program — are handled in-clinic. Free parking is behind the building; hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Your Neighbours on Corydon

A clinic you can
walk to.

Most hearing clinics in Winnipeg ask you to come to them — to a strip mall on Portage, a shopping centre concourse, a medical building downtown. Ours asks almost nothing of Tuxedo: we’re on Corydon Avenue right at Kenaston, near the Tuxedo shops you already visit.

Prairie Hearing Centre is owned and run by Kyle and Sara McCombs. Kyle is a Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist (BC-HIS) who has worked in hearing healthcare since 2006; Sara brings 12 years in the field and a personal connection as the parent of a child with cochlear implants. Between them, every visit — first test, fitting, follow-up, quick battery stop — happens with people who know your name and your history.

What We Do, Steps From Home

A full hearing practice, not a hearing aid counter.

Custom protection for loud passions

Musician moulds, concert plugs, swim moulds, and sleep plugs, each made from impressions of your own ears.

Repairs and supplies for every brand

Cleaning, servicing, repairs, batteries, domes, and wax guards — even for hearing aids you bought somewhere else.

The Neighbourhood Difference

Why Tuxedo starts
and stays here.

Actually in the neighbourhood

No Portage Avenue traffic, no mall concourse. We're on Corydon at Kenaston — for most of Tuxedo, that's a two-minute drive or a pleasant walk.

A free test that's actually thorough

A complete diagnostic work-up in a purpose-built sound booth, including speech-in-noise testing — the situation that trips people up at dinner parties and restaurants.

Owner-operated since day one

Kyle McCombs, BC-HIS, has been in hearing healthcare since 2006 and owns the practice with Sara. You'll never be handed off to whoever's on shift.

Hearing built for your life here

Birdsong on an Assiniboine Park walk, conversation at the club, grandkids across the dinner table — we tune your hearing aids to the moments you actually live in.

Transparent on money

Straight answers on pricing, direct billing with most insurers, and help with the Manitoba Seniors Hearing Aid Program, Veterans Affairs, WCB, and NIHB.

Service for any hearing aid

Cleaning, repairs, and adjustments for every major brand — even aids fitted elsewhere — with loaners available so you're never without hearing.

Planning a Visit

In and out,
without the production.

A first assessment takes about an hour; a battery or supply stop takes two minutes. Either way, you park free behind the building, walk straight in on the ground floor, and deal with the owners — no phone trees, no waiting rooms three storeys up.

If testing shows your hearing is healthy, that’s the appointment: a clean baseline and a friendly goodbye. If it shows something worth addressing, we’ll explain your options across all five brands we fit and let you decide at your own pace. Pressure has never sold a hearing aid worth keeping.

All five of the major ones: Oticon, Phonak, Starkey, Widex, and ReSound. Because we're independent, we can match the technology to your hearing, your lifestyle, and your budget rather than to a single brand's catalogue.

Yes. We offer evidence-based tinnitus therapy, including sound therapy programs and counselling. Many modern hearing aids also include built-in tinnitus relief features we can demonstrate during your visit.

We do — custom-moulded earplugs for noisy work, concerts and musicians, swimming, and sleep. Each set is made from precise impressions of your ears, taken here at the clinic.

Yes — the Manitoba Seniors Hearing Aid Program provides up to $2,000 toward hearing aids for eligible seniors, covering the hearing assessment and fitting as well as the devices. We prepare the application with you at the clinic, so the paperwork never becomes the reason to put it off.
